Q: why is my 94 toyota camry sputtering and shaking when i start it and it wont run?
When I start my Toyota Camry it shakes and sputters and is very noisy. Then when I put it in gear it shuts off.

A: A defective sprag clutch in the converter will not allow the vehicle to go into low or reverse. Assuming the transmission is full of clean fluid, if going into gear is very slow, or not at all, a good place to begin looking for a problem is the converter. Remove the converter by removing the transmission. Inside the converter are engagement tabs and a spline. Using a couple of long screwdrivers, wedge the spline so it will hold. Try and turn the tab with the other screwdriver. It should free spin in one direction and hold firmly in the other. If it doesn’t, the converter is faulty.

Another good place to look is the pump pressure if the transmission will not move at all. Although this is rare, since most pumps are very reliable, a quick check is to loosen a transmission cooling line and start the engine. Most cooling lines are at the radiator. While this is not an exacting test since a pressure gauge should be installed, a sound pump will spray fluid under a fairly high pressure. (Wrap a rag around the fitting to prevent the fluid from going everywhere). If you don’t see a gusher of fluid, you have a pump problem. Only run the engine a few seconds to prevent running the transmission dry. Before you condemn the pump though, check the transmission filter. This requires removing the service pan, but it’s worth the effort. A plugged or dirty filter can cause low pressure problems.
Torque converters contain a one-way clutch. If the clutch jams and locks the stator (which normally keeps the stator tuning only one way), the converter cannot circulate the fluid properly between the impeller and turbine. The resulting turbulence inside the unit can cause a lack of power at highway speeds and may cause the engine to overheat during cruise conditions. A locked one-way clutch will also cause the fluid to run dangerously hot, which can damage the transmission and lead to transmission failure. If the one-way clutch fails to hold its position and freewheels in both directions, the torque converter cannot multiply torque normally and the vehicle will accelerate slowly (like starting out in 2nd gear). The only cure for either condition is to replace the torque converter.
Torque converter shudder fells like a slight to heavy vibration in the transmission, and is usually accompanied by an interruption in power transfer. It generally occurs at part throttle and light acceleration, between 15 and 50 miles per hour, just before the shift to one of the top gears where the converter reaches “lock-up.”
Transmissions can shudder in a very similar manner to torque converters. To determine whether the shudder is tranny or TC related, run your vehicle for a little while till it begin to shudder and immediately park it. With your foot on the brake, put the transmission in Drive, and apply light throttle. If you feel shuddering, then it’s the Torque converter; if not, then the problem is within the transmission.
Unless there is physical damage to the converter or transmission, shudder is a fairly easy problem to solve. Once the transmission fluid has been overheated enough times, it becomes permanently de-polymerized and need to be replaced. You can do this yourself by draining the transmission and flushing it, or taking it to any competent mechanic for maintenance.

Q: How much is this 2002 Toyota Camry Solara worth? Should I get a new timing belt?
2002 Toyota Camry Solara, with 95K miles. No dents or scratches. It has new tires and a new alternator.

A: The timing belt was due at 90K miles (first source) but it is common practice for sellers not to replace the belt before selling. It is very hard to recoup the cost of timing belt replacement from buyers. Belt replacement, without the recommended water pump and crank/cam seals, is roughly $300-$500 for your Solara (second source – put your zip code in for a better estimate). A proper job, with water pump and seals, adds about $200 to your cost and will add nothing to the selling price.

Q: How do I use the shiftronic feature on a 2011 Toyota Camry?
Hey, I purchased my 2011 Toyota Camry LE this past summer and I have grown very curious on how to use shiftronic. I know its similar to manual and I’ve been looking for answers online but have come up short. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

A: If you look at your shift gate, next to “D”, there should be a + – labeled “S”. All you have to do is once you put your car into D, just put the shift lever to the left, from there on, you are manually controlling the gears and gear changing, (kind of like a manual but without the clutch, the computer takes care of the clutch for you).

+ is for upshift, – is for downshift, to be safe, you should upshift when your RPMs hit around 3000.

Q: How long do brakes and pads should last for Toyota Camry 2011?
How many miles can you go before you need to change the brakes for a Toyota Camry?

A: Depends if you ease on the brake or if you stomp on your brake
Brake pads can last 10 years or 6 months depending how you drive.

Q: toyota camry?
what do you think of that car for a girl like me?!

A: Hmmm – That’s a odd question – Mainly because I don’t know what a girl like you is…

But I can tell you that the Toyota Camry is one of the finest produces automobile when it comes to Value for the dollar. It has an outstanding – unblemished record… Just check any lemon aid book or any reviewers opinion. It has been the choice for many many buyers… The record show that past customers are very happy. It’s a choice of many people! The are currently built in Kentucky!

It is a car for anyone that want to have a car that is reliable, safe and failry low cost of ownership. The unsurnace industry says it’s a better than average when it comes to cost of repairs… Hold up good in collisions…

But that only my opinion… from a guy like me!

Right now…I have 3 Toyota’s – 2007 Camry SE – 2005 Camry LE and 1998 Tercel! All perform EXCELLENT!

PS: the tercal has 379,000km (about 237,000miles!) and still going strong!

Q: Can you fit two 98 Toyota Avalon and two 98 Toyota Camry in 40′ container?
I have two 98 Toyota Avalon, and two 98 Toyota Camry cars (four total). Is it possible to fit these all four cars into one 40′ container?

Thank you all for response.

A: Yes, If they are no more than 10 ft long!! – I don’t know the Avalon, but you should get 3 Camrys in a 45 ft container or 2 of each in 30 ft containers. Do not rely on the parking brake to hold while in transit, they will have to be secured by either chains or ratchet straps, otherwise you will have over 3000 kg moving about. You could always ” double deck” them in a 40 ft lol

Q: Why Toyota Camry 1992 is not qualified for cash for clunker program?
I have Toyota Camry 1992 and they don’t accept it for cash for clunker program. I think they should measure mpg first and should not rely on the year the car built.

A: Hopefully you will find all answers at taxguruhelp.com site.. link copied below

Q: How much should I sell my Toyota Camry for?
Im trying to sell my Toyota Camry. It a 97 and has 252,000 miles. It has a bit of body damage. (Hit in parking lot, hit a deer) There is noticable wear and tear and it has a crack in the radiator that I dont plan on fixing. Im asking $1000 and everyone keeps saying “Wow,” “thats it?” So am I asking too little??

A: If your car was in very clean condition and the engine only had 150K or so on it, then you could ask $3000 to $4000 for it, depending upon how the market is in your area for older Toyotas.
But since it’s got some serous troubles with it, your asking price sounds about right. It’s true, that one already said, ask for what you can get. You actually might start at $1500 and see what happens.

250K miles for a 12 yr old car is pretty heavy. My 1991 Corolla is only just about to turn 250K itself, and I drive it a LOT. So that’s incredibly long distance for the Camry.
Plus, the body damage really takes away from value because people like to have their car look nice.
What’s worse is the radiator problem. It may NOT be a problem for driving, but it’s still a flaw in keeping the engine running well. I had to put a new radiator in my 1991 Corolla, had been bugging me for years with slight overheating, and it’s amazing how easily the car runs now, especially it won’t EVER overheat now. It’s all fixed because of those stupid little mini-holes in radiator that were hard to notice.

But the major problem with the car is that the 250K miles doesn’t hit only the engine, but the whole car, so things will get worn out, will wear out, and need replacing. Lots of stuff from just using the car normally, not even trying to drive like “Fast and Furious”.

So you might go ahead and ask $1500, but you’re stretching what it’s worth. IT would be a bargain for someone who’s willing to put $1000 into car to fix it up, but with that much mileage on that engine, I don’t think even I would take it, and I buy stuff really well used.
Starting at $1500, you can always go down and then accept $1000 as bottom offer, if no one wants to pay the $1500.

Q: I have a 1998 Toyota Camry that when I turn the car off I lose the station presets.?
I have a 1998 Toyota Camry that when I turn the car off I lose the station presets and then when I turn the car back on, the radio is off. Is there a battery in the radio that keeps the presets in memory? If so, does anyone know how to take the radio out? I have looked and tried and can’t figure out how it comes out.

A: there is a wire not hooked up on the radio. one power wire usually red is hooked up to a source turned on with the key. another wire usually orange needs to hook to the car battery, on all the time, this one is probably loose or not hooked up. and ground is black wire.

Q: 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrids performance, how does it compare to a Toyota Camry V6?
In order to be ecological friendly, my firm bought five 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrids for each senior partners. In performance, how does it compare to a Toyota Camry V6?

A: The 2.4L I-4 Camry produces 158hp. 0-60mph 10.1 seconds.

The Camry Hybrid with the 2.4L engine and electrical motor produces a combined 187hp. 0-60mph 8.6 seconds.

The 3.5L V6 Camry produces 268hp. 0-60mph 6.10 seconds

The Camry Hybrid is a pretty good compromise in performance between the base I-4 and the V6, while beating both in fuel economy and maintenance costs.

Not sure why the guy below thinks the Hybrid Synergy Drive is “complex,” considering that it is actually mechanically simpler than a regular car: http://www.eahart.com/prius/psd

Unlike a regular car, the PSD transmission in the Camry has just 22 moving parts, no hot-running torque converter, no clutch, no gear-shifting wear-and-tear. And it has no timing belt, starter, or alternator either. That’s why it’s lower-maintenance than a regular car.

Hope this helps.

Q: How many horsespower hes toyota camry 4 Cy?
Hi, I have a Toyota Camry 1998 and I would like to know how many horsepower has , it is in 4 Cy and I have a second question, can i make it powerful and how?
Thanks

A: 133 Horsepower.

That engine? I suppose you could if you really wanted too. But you would spend so much money on custom parts you might as well just buy a Supra for 100k and be done with it.

It’s not ment to be a high horsepower engine. It’s ment to be economical.

If you’re looking for something to soup up. Get any of Toyota’s Sports Cars, Supra, MR2, Celica, S-Runner or X-Runner.

They will all be a MUCH better starting platform and will end up with more HP in the end.

Q: I have a 2002 toyota camry and the car idlesnveruy low and cuts off whats the problem?
I have a 2002 toyota camry and i accidently removed the battery cable but put it back on and now the car idles low what could be the problem

A: When you removed the cable, the computer erased all of its previous data and needs time to “relearn” its operating perimeters. In other words, keep driving and it is going to improve.

Q: Where can I obtain a free 2003 owners manual for Toyota Camry?
I recently brought a 2003 Toyota Camry and the owner lost the manual to the car. Is there any sites that I can go to,in order to obtain the actual manual or the PDF file of the manual?

A: You can go to Toyota’s web site and see if there is a place where you can download it. Other than that you might try some of the local salvage yards in your area.
